Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of perceived social responsibility on social entrepreneurship, with emphasis on the mediating role of achievement motivation among women entrepreneurs in Kerman Province. In this applied research a descriptive-correlational research design has been employed. The statistical population consisted of 677 women entrepreneurs. Based on Cochran's formula and through stratified random sampling, 250 participants were selected as the sample. The participants responded to the Carroll’s Social Responsibility Questionnaire (1991), the Arab Social Entrepreneurship Questionnaire (2011), and the Helmreich and Spence Achievement Motivation Questionnaire (1977). The data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS at two levels: descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (path analysis, structural equation modeling, and the Sobel test).
The results indicated that the direct effect of perceived social responsibility on social entrepreneurship among women entrepreneurs was positive and statistically significant. The direct effect of perceived social responsibility on achievement motivation among women entrepreneurs was also positive and statistically significant. Furthermore, the direct effect of achievement motivation on social entrepreneurship among women entrepreneurs was positive and statistically significant. However, the mediation analysis suggested that achievement motivation did not play a statistically significant mediating role in the relationship between perceived social responsibility—and its four dimensions, i.e. economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibility—and social entrepreneurship among women entrepreneurs. Accroding to the findings, social responsibility increases women's social entrepreneurship independently of achievement motivation. Therefore, in empowerment programs for women entrepreneurs in Kerman Province, emphasizing social responsibility as a direct and effective strategy should be given greater priority than interventions focused solely on enhancing achievement motivation.
