Abstract
The present study aims to provide a sociological analysis of the relationship between domestic violence against women and the tendency toward extramarital relationships among married women in the city of Qazvin. This research was conducted using a survey method. The statistical population consisted of 110967 married women in Qazvin. Based on Cochran’s formula, a sample size of 383 participants was determined. Sampling was carried out using a proportional stratified random method. Data were collected through a researcher‑made questionnaire whose validity was confirmed through face validity, and its reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software through Pearson correlation tests and multiple regression analysis. The correlation findings indicated a positive and significant relationship between domestic violence and the overall tendency toward extramarital relationships (r = 0.530, p < 0.01). Furthermore, all dimensions of violence-including psychological, physical, economic, social, cultural, and sexual violence—showed positive and significant relationships with different components of the tendency toward extramarital relationships. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that the dimensions of domestic violence collectively explained 52.8% of the variance in the tendency toward extramarital relationships. Among the predictor variables, psychological violence (β = 0.522) and physical violence (β = 0.467) had the strongest effects on increasing the tendency toward extramarital relationships. Cultural, economic, sexual, and social violence also demonstrated positive and significant effects. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of considering the multidimensional consequences of domestic violence in explaining marital relationship problems and emphasize the need for designing intervention and support programs aimed at reducing domestic violence and strengthening the stability of family relationships.
