Modeling Structural Equations of the Impact of Family Function on Suicide Attempts (Case Study: Eslamabad-e Gharb)

Abstract
Suicide is a multidimensional behavior that is triggered by a variety of factors, including family history and family conflicts, among other things. The present study aims to explore the impact of the relationship between family function and the motivation for attempting suicide. To do so, a survey method was adopted for data collection via a standardized questionnaire. The statistical population of the study includes 154 individuals who had unsuccessful attempted suicide in 2023. In the statistical population, n=99 people were selected using convenience sampling. According to the findings, the mean age of the participants was 34.17 years, with an age distribution range of 13 to 57 years. Suicide attempts in men are higher than in women, and a higher level of education is associated with a lower motivation for attempting suicide. The multiple correlation coefficient between the independent variables of the equation and suicide attempt is 66.1%. The R2 or coefficient of determination indicates that independent variables can explain 43.7% of the variance in the variable of suicide attempts. Dysfunctional communication, with a beta coefficient of 0.626, has the highest impact compared to other variables. The variables of mutual misunderstanding and gender have a direct bearing on suicide attempts. Additionally, dysfunctional communication has the highest, and income has the lowest indirect impact on suicide attempts among the research variables. The findings suggest that improved social support skills have a protective effect on suicidal behaviors. Lack of interaction and empathy among family members can increase the risk of suicide, and those who feel a lack of care and attention from parents are more likely to attempt suicide.
