Abstract
Social vitality is considered one of the key indicators of adolescents’ social development, and the family environment can influence the formation of this indicator. This study aims to explore the effect of parents’ life satisfaction on the level of social vitality among their children. The statistical population of this correlational study consists of all second-grade high school students (female and male) in Tehran who were enrolled in the 2024-2025 academic year. The sample size comprised 253 students (male and female) in upper secondary education (tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades), selected as follows: 76 students from District 1, 63 students from District 8, and 113 students from District 18. The sampling method was conducted using a multi-stage cluster sampling approach. Data were analyzed using SPSS. To do so, inferential statistical indices, including factor analysis, correlation coefficients, the t test, regression analysis, and path analysis, were employed. The results suggested that parents’ life satisfaction has a positive and statistically significant relationship with adolescents’ social vitality and its dimensions—i.e., joyfulness, health, self-esteem, and efficacy—at the 99% confidence interval. Path analysis in this study indicates that the two study factors, parents’ life satisfaction and the adolescents’ level of social vitality, are linked directly. In addition to the direct path, the compatibility factor also wields an indirect effect on adolescents’ social vitality through satisfaction with friends and acquaintances. The findings demonstrate that background variables do not affect adolescents’ social vitality, highlighting the importance of the family environment in nurturing children. It also suggests that such outcomes are not strongly associated with the adolescents’ individual characteristics. Accordingly, it is recommended to include social and educational programs aimed at strengthening family relationships and improving the quality of life of both parents and adolescents.
