Abstract

The aim of the present study is to explore the indicators of a child-friendly city with an emphasis on educational spaces in secondary high schools of Islamabad Gharb using the structural equation modeling (SEM) method. The statistical population consisted of 4588 female and male students from 27 secondary schools in Islamabad Gharb of whom a sample of n=300 students was selected using the Cochran formula. The research instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire with confirmed content (face) and construct validity and acceptable composite reliability. The data were analyzed using correlation analysis and SEM methods with SPSS and Smart PLS software. SEM reveals a strong and meaningful relationship between the indicators of a school-friendly city, so that the data fit well with the conceptual model of the research and the model fit is acceptable. This confirms the validity and reliability of the results. In this regard, “educational environment” indicator with a score of 159.17 has the strongest relationship with the school-friendly city in the secondary high schools of Islamabad Gharb followed by “physical environment” (a score of 515.15), “social environment” (a score of 837.12), and “psychological environment” (a score of 952.8). It demonstrates the impact of these indices on the school-friendly city in the secondary high schools of Islamabad Gharb. In general, the results suggest that educational and psychological environments wield the highest and the lowest impact, respectively.
