Abstract

The present study sought to understand the lived experience of women service workers in Tehran from social inequalities. The conceptual framework of the present study is based on the views of scholars in the field of social inequalities, social exclusion, inferiority, and gender oppression. The research method is qualitative and interpretive phenomenology, based on which in-depth interviews were conducted with 25 women service workers in Tehran through purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed and interpreted using thematic analysis, during which sub-themes and main themes were extracted. The results show that women service workers in Tehran have specific lived experiences such as: deprivation of citizenship, female exclusion, gender exploitation, social powerlessness, being a patriarchal class, gender discrimination, acceptance of inferiority, and masking. Overall, women service workers have unpleasant lived experiences of social inequalities and dominance relationships in their type of job and always suffer from exploitation and discrimination in this regard.
