Abstract
The experience of physicality for young women, as a cultural and psychological issue, has wide-ranging effects on their lives and behavior. This research, with the approach of narrative analysis, has investigated the lived experience of 14 young women in Isfahan, who range in age from 18 to 35 years. Examining the interview text of the participants and coding and then categorizing it, brought the researchers to 4 main categories, including the cultural dynamics of fitness, health-oriented behaviors, body self-concept, body self-awareness experience. The findings show that social and cultural pressures, media and beauty ideals have negative effects on self-confidence, body image and mental health of these women. Also, economic factors and educational status have also influenced their attitude towards their bodies. Participants stated that social acceptance and approval from others is very important to them, and in an effort to achieve this approval, they may resort to unhealthy diets and even eating disorders. Sports and physical activities were introduced as an effective solution for improving body image, increasing self-confidence and reducing stress and depression. Appropriate education in the field of body image and promotion of sports activities can help young women to move towards a healthier and happier life with more self-confidence and better psychological development. This research shows that fitness with positive exercises and improving social relationships provides an increase in life satisfaction and highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to managing fitness challenges.
