Abstract

Economic and cultural progress of societies is largely influenced by the science production of those societies. In the near future, the wealth of nations and countries will be measured by their science production. The study of science production is a good tool for policy making, planning, recognition of the status quo, targeting scientific movements, determining research priorities, and identification of weaknesses in scientific productions. The growth of the quantity and quality of scientific products depends on several factors at different levels. One of these factors is the social networking among people. Many scientists, including Burt, Janson, Yani, Wier, Colman, Powel, Geranovetter believe that the network of individual and organizational relationship play an important role in science production, promote and incourage innovation, extend creative ideas, gather heterogeneous knowledge and scientists, facilitate information flow and exchange ideas, scientists ability to collaborate, upgrade the quality of scientific activity, increase scientific publications, increase productivity, enhance performance, promote the quality of articles, ability to cooperate and compete. The study of individual and organizational social networks can provide useful information About social networks between people, The type and pattern of them, the extent and the way relationships between individuals and groups are presented, play an important role in decision making in order to increase quantitative and qualitative scientific output, and a clearer understanding of the dynamics of the relations of actors in the scientific organization In the social context. The main purpose of this study is quantifying science production and analysis of quantitive and qualitative characteristics of social networks among researchers and their impact on science production of the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in the academic year 2011-2015. The present research seeks to find patterns of relationships that leads to more production of science.
