A Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experience of Tehran Citizens on the Topics of Citizenship Rights (Case study: Public Transportation)

Abstract
 
The daily lives of citizens in metropolitan areas are closely related to transportation to the extent that it is recognized in the world literature as one of the important needs of citizenship rights. This article aims to examine the lived experience of Tehran citizens with an exploratory approach using phenomenological method focusing on their daily perception of using public transportation in the semantic form of citizenship rights. The statistical population of the study includes Tehran citizens using public transportation. The qualitative data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 15 citizens using public transportation in different areas of Tehran. Due to the qualitative nature of the study, the terms accuracy and correctness of the data were used instead of validity and reliability. The data were analyzed by theme analysis technique, which resulted in 4 main themes and 6 sub-themes. The findings showed that the experience of Tehran citizens would include aspects of inequality, injustice, feelings of discrimination in receiving transportation services, low quality of transportation services, incoherent access, mental health damage and promotion of violence in social interactions. It was also found that lack of vitality in all neighborhoods would be easy and interconnected in accessing public transportation. Finally, the results showed that the different organized and basic themes according to the citizens' points of view had been narrated for the comprehensive theme of citizens' rights in terms of public transportation, which would include justice, vitality, rejection and a sense of security and health.
