The Relationship between Attitude, Social Support, and Elderly’s Life of Quality (A case study of Kerman)

Abstract

Elderly’s quality of life is affected by several factors, one of which is social support of the elderly. By increasing social support, the quality of life is improved. But the previous research suggests that the elders’ attitudes towards social support and their abilities has a role in influencing of social support; if elders attitude is negative towards received social support, and understand it as sign of his weakness and inability or see it costly and humiliating or a person feels that himself has the ability to do his works without the help of others; Social support for him may be a negative impact.
The study survey among 380 elderly men and women living in the city of Kerman has done. The research instruments have been questionnaire and interview.
Mean age was 67.01. They were primarily supported by their partner and then their son or daughter. The results suggest that emotional, financial, consultancy and information support has a significant positive relationship with quality of life. The attitude towards support was the most effective factor among other variables.
