Investigating the Mechanism of the Effects of Cultural and Economic Capital of Couples on Family Stability

Abstract

Today, trying to have a stable family is an important issue in the world. Simply living together in a house is not the sign of a stable family. The study supposesr family as a social place in which the position of couples is determined by the amount and type of their capital and the functions of capital as a social relationship that gives power to the holder. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanism of the effect of cultural and economic capital of couples on the stability of the family in the city of Songor. The mechanisms considered in this study are the power structure in the family and the type of couple relationships through which cultural and economic capital affects the stability of the family. The theoretical framework of this research is a combination of theories related to the stable family, theories related to the mechanism of power structure, theories related to the mechanism of the type of relations, and Bourdieu's theory of cultural and economic capital. The method used in this study is quantitative and survey and the data were collected using a structured and standard questionnaire. The population is all families  in the city of Songor and the sample consisted of 373 participants, selected using Cochran's formula and stratified sampling method. The results show that most of the families in this city are relatively balanced and cohesive in terms of family stability. In terms of the power structure mechanism, most couples have a low level of participation within their families and in terms of the type of relationship, almost all couples have a semi-democratic relationship.
