Abstract
This researc h c enters on a c omparative study of
various norms breakings among high-sc hool students
in Khwaf town and Birjand c ity public sc hools. Sample
population is drawn from the high sc hool (3rd year
level) students studying in 2005 2006 educ ational
year. Ac c ording to the population size of the c ities,
the sample populations were dec ided at 250 and
300, based on the simple random sampling method.
The research results showed that Khawf town students
in c omparison with Birjand students were more
c ommitted to the religious norms, had lower feelings
of soc ial anomie, enjoyed less familial opportunities,
stronger family, sc hool and soc ial ties, had fewer
relationships with students who disregard the norms,
and enjoyed lower soc ial and ec onomic status.
These fac ts seem to reflec t the relatively more
traditional structure of Khwaf.
Moreover, in multi-variable regression analysis of the
sample populations, in the Khwaf c ase, variables
suc h as c ommitment to religious norms, familial and
soc ial ties, and in the Birjand c ase, variables suc h as
familial opportunities, ties with the high sc hool and
ties with the soc iety showed more c ontribution to the
explanation of the dependent variable (students
norms breakings).
