Abstract
Subject and purpose: social indifference is one of the phenomena that has spread in the last few decades of Iran. The question of this research is, what effect can social inequality have on this phenomenon?
Method: This research was conducted using a quantitative method and a survey method using a questionnaire. The statistical population of the research is citizens over 15 years of age in Ahvaz city, 380 of them have been studied as a research sample by multi-stage random sampling. The collected data have been analyzed with SPSS and Smart PLS software.
Findings: this research show that the level of feeling of social inequality and social aphaty among the statistical population is higher than the average level. The level of indifference of people varies according to age, gender and ethnicity. And the feeling of social inequality with a standard effect equal to 0.4 can explain 16% of the variance of people's social indifference.
Result: According to the obtained results, as much as people in the society feel that they are discriminated against and do not have the same opportunity as other people in the society, they become bored and frustrated. And they will take isolation and indifference towards the society and will consider this behavior as an absolute right and proper behavior. The prevalence of such mentality and behavior can have negative consequences in different dimensions for the social system.
