Abstract

This paper examines the factors affecting marriage and their relationship with satisfaction with married life. The sample of the study consisted of 300 persons, selected from a statistical society of 41557 couples between 25 and 45 years old in the city of Birjand. The results of the study showed that the following variables had a significant relationship with satisfaction with married life: need to a partner, pressure of other people on the choice of the partner, necessity to complement one’s personality, correspondence of habits, understanding of the social position of the partner at the time of marriage, number of children and the wife’s level of education. The multi-variable analysis shows that the following variables positively affect satisfaction with married life: correspondence of habits, understanding of the social position of the partner at the time of marriage, pressure from the surrounding people, number of children and the wife’s level of education. Also, the variables the partner’s age and the length of married life negatively affect satisfaction with married life. And the vice-versa also holds. The said variables have managed to explain 49% of the changes in the dependent variable.
