Abstract

In recent years, patterns of consumerism have dominated body like other areas of human life in a way that people who belong to different classes of society pay much more attention to their appearance. So people (especially women) try to conform to advertised beauty patterns with respect to their body, face and physical appearance, or probably try to change such features. Therefore, paying much more attention to body and its effect on social relations has attracted sociologists’ attention. In this paper, we try to find the influential factors on body management through a survey study. The results show that there is a meaningful relationship between social capital aspects (except for friends’ support), cultural capital, mental health and body management variables. Furthermore, the results of a path analysis show that 41% of changes in body management are explainable by cultural capital and 13% by social capital.
