Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to study comparatively the political participation of young and middle-aged people in Noorabad Mamasani and its related social factors. To explain the research problem, we have used the theory of political socialization and Milbrath’s theory. We distributed questionnaires among 610 young and middle aged people in Noorabad Mamasani, who were selected through a categorical sampling method. The results show that young people’s political participation is 27.25% and it is atthe average level. The results also show that middle-aged people’s political participation is 28.19% and it is at theaverage level too. Participating in elections is the main indicator of political participation among young and middle-aged people. Variations such as sex, father’s educational level, political family, political friends, social trusting, the level of religiosity, membership in communities and using mass-media have significant relationships and correlate with young people’s political participation. The results also show that these variations have significant relationships and correlate with middle-aged people’s political participation; sex, the level of education, political family, political friends, social trusting, the level of religiosity, membership in communities and using mass-media.
